The U.S. Embassy (Tunisia) is seeking applicants for the 2010 Study of the United States Institutes for Student leaders on Social Entrepreneurship. This undergraduate level academic program provides students with an overview of how to employ entrepreneurship skills to address social issues. The institute will review the development, history, challenges, and successes of social enterprises and community leaders, in the United States and globally.
Topics may include:
Microfinance, organizational development and management
Emerging markets and risk analysis
Strategic business planning
Corporate social responsibility
Grant writing and innovation
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates should be undergraduate students who demonstrate active involvement in social entrepreneurship. Applicants should have a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated by grades, awards, and teacher recommendations.

Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders
Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders are four-to-six week academic programs for small groups of foreign undergraduate leaders. Hosted by academic institutions throughout the United States, the Student Leader Institutes include an intensive academic component, an educational study tour to other regions of the country, local community service activities, and a unique opportunity to get to know American peers.
Designed to promote a better understanding of the United States among the next generation of world leaders, the Student Leader Institutes examine topics such as principles of U.S. democracy, the U.S. political system, the role of civil society, and the media. Through both academic study and enrichment activities, participating undergraduate students explore and discuss freedom of expression, diversity and tolerance, and volunteerism, among other issues. Participants typically represent diverse and underserved sectors in their countries.

Interested persons should contact the Public Affairs section of their local U.S. Embassy for up-to-date information about Study of the U.S. programs. U.S. Embassies manage the selection and nomination of candidates, as well as organize participants’ travel to the U.S. In some countries, candidates may also be selected by a binational Fulbright Commission.
