Background / General description:
IFC (International Finance Corporation), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is a global investor and advisor committed to promoting project in its developing member countries that are economically beneficial, financially and commercially sound, and environmentally and socially sustainable. IFC finances private sector investment, mobilizes capital in the international finance markets, helps client improve social and environmental sustainability and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world. IFC s Investment Officers are project leaders of multidisciplinary teams consisting of lawyers, environmental and social specialists, economists, as well as technical specialists; they lead business development activities, evaluate business opportunities, negotiate, structure and close transactions, and manage portfolio projects. The positions advertised here will focus on projects in the power, utilities and transport sectors. In addition to its traditional business lending to and investing in projects, IFC has recently launched a new initiative, IFC Infraventures, aimed at developing new projects. Infraventures is a US$ 100 mio Global Infrastructure Project Development Fund which provides risk capital to fund the early phases of the development of infrastructure projects in IDA (International Development Association) countries through a variety of financial instruments, and expertise in critical areas of the earlier stages of project development, to bring private and PPP infrastructure projects to the financing stage. The goal of Infraventures is to help the poorest countries to increase the number of bankable, innovative, developmental and profitable private infrastructure projects. The Infraventures approach is driven by entrepreneurship, ability to work in challenging situations and appetite for risk. The fund is coordinated globally out of Washington, D.C. The Investment Officers, Infrastructure sector, will support Infraventures as well as IFC s more traditional lending and investing business. Based in Dakar, they will report to IFC s Infrastructure Cluster Manager, based in Johannesburg.

Duties and Accountabilities:
Work closely with senior management to develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities
Evaluate, structure, negotiate and close transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales.
Propose innovative and appropriate financial structures for straightforward transactions, as well as non-routine financing of private and PPP infrastructure projects.
Manage portfolio projects for IFC s Infrastructure Department
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional businesses, banking and multilateral partners, as well as government officials to further develop the sector and business opportunities.
Add value to our clients businesses by bringing together the contributions of IFC s social, environmental and technical assistance capabilities, and offer pragmatic solutions to the specific challenges of the infrastructure sector to achieve sustainable development impact.

Selection Criteria:
MBA or equivalent
5+ years experience in finance, with a proven track record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments.
Knowledge of the infrastructure sector including concession financing, policy issues, license conditions, tariff regimes and privatizations
Candidates with experience in non-routine financing of private and PPP infrastructure projects in challenging emerging markets have a competitive advantage.
Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments, including debt and equity.
Proven business development and client relationship skills; ability to interact directly and independently with senior management of potential and existing clients, as well as with all other stakeholders and at all levels.
Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; fluency in French is equally a must.
