Cameroon: Orange Cameroun Contributes to Academic Excellence

Orange Cameroun has awarded scholarships worth FCFA 4.5million to the best students of the National High School of Engineering, Polytechnic for the 2006- 2007 academic year.

The Deputy Director of Orange Cameroun, Roland Gerter, and the Director of Human Resources, Jacquiline Nekongo, officially handed scholarships to the students at their school hall on November 15, in the presence of the Director of the school, Awono Onana, and the Representative of the Rector of Yaounde 1, Prof. Abangma Samson.

Five scholarships of FCFA 100,000 each were given to five successful students in the entrance examination into the first year, eight awards of FCFA 200,000 to best students in the third year of each department, with three granted to the best female students in the department of Information Technology.

Equally eight awards were attributed to the best fourth-year students of each department moving to the fifth year, with three dedicated to the best three female students of the departments of Information Technology, Electricity and Telecommunications.

Speaking on the occasion, Mme Jacqueline Nekongo maintained that the awards were in line with the partnership agreement signed with the School of Engineering in 2004 within the frame work of promoting excellence in education. Against this background, FCFA 4,5million is disbursed every year to the best in different domains.

She maintained that Orange used the opportunity to donate a stock of materials to help the school in putting up its multimedia Centre.She equally said Orange Cameroun within the partnership receives students of the school for internships for a maximum of eight months between the third to the fifth year.

The Students’ Representative, Charles Wocmeni, while appreciating the gesture of Orange, noted with satisfaction the renovation of their amphi-theatre which has become the pride of the students and equally hailed the employment of ex-students of the school in Orange.

While enumerating the various contributions of the outfit, he expressed the wish that Orange extends its largesse to the Masters students in the school following the introduction of the LMD system in order to assist them in research and in the proposition of research topics in years to come.

Reading meaning into the collaboration with Orange Cameroun, Charles Wocmeni concluded that the bright future is Orange.
